WNCDSA 2010 Camp and Enrichment Program
[Scholarship Opportunity]
Dear Families and Friends,
We are pleased to present our 5th annual WNC Down Syndrome Alliance Camp and Enrichment Program Scholarship Opportunity.
This scholarship opportunity is available to children with Down Syndrome, ages 3-18 in the 17 counties of western North Carolina.
Due to a more challenging economic environment in 2009, our donations and revenues have decreased, thus resulting in a decision by our Board of Directors to reduce the annual individual reimbursement to $400 for 2010, as opposed to the $1000 for 2009.
With the help of our supporters and the hard work of our Board of Directors, we hope to be able to increase this amount in 2011. You can help us make this happen by forming a team to participate in our Buddy Walk in October. This will be our largest fundraiser for 2010.
As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions on how we can better serve individuals with Down Syndrome in Western North Carolina.
Warmest Regards,
Kelly Davis

[Description and Eligibility Requirements]
DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the WNCDSA Camp and Enrichment Program is to enable parents of children in WNC with Down Syndrome to choose camps or enrichment programs that fir their child’s needs. This scholarship program offers a stipend for tuition and a one-on-one assistant for up to $400 for 2010 for each eligible child with Down Syndrome.
Who is Eligible?
Children with Down Syndromes ages 3-18 who reside in one of the 17 counties of WNC are eligible for this program. These counties are Avery, Buncombe, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania and Yancey.
What does the scholarship cover?
Reimbursement is for camp or enrichment program tuition and a one-on-one assistant who attends the camp or enrichment program with the child. Total scholarship available is up to $400 for child for 2010. Payments for tuition may be paid directly to the camp/enrichment program or reimbursed to the parent with a receipt and registration confirmation. Reimbursement for the one-on-one assistants will be paid directly to the one-on-one based on a detailed receipt from the camp/enrichment program as outlined below.
What camps or enrichment programs are covered?
Camps or enrichment programs may not be owned or operated by relatives of the child. We realize some camps or enrichment programs are not certified or licensed; therefore, the WNCDSA does not make this a requirement for a entity to be eligible. These programs should be affiliated with an established entity, such as an athletic association, church, government or other community resource. If you have any questions regarding whether the program you choose is eligible, please contact Kelly Davis at 828-658-8255 or kellydavis62@charter.net.
How does my child participate in the opportunity?
Parents who want their child to participate should submit a completed Camp-Enrichment Program Scholarship Application, the WNCDSA Camp-Enrichment Program Payment form and the WNCDSA One-On-One Reimbursement form (if applicable). These completed forms may also be mailed to WNCDSA, P.O. Box 421, Weaverville, NC 28787.
How are payments for the Camp-Enrichment programs processed?
Once the completed forms are received by submission on the website or mail, payment will be mailed to the appropriate, eligible entity within 20 days or receipt. If the camp or enrichment program has any questions, they may contact Kelly Davis.
Receipts for expenses for 2010 must be submitted by January 31, 2011, to be applied to the 2010 reimbursement program.
How am I reimbursed for the One-on-One Assistant?
The parent is responsible for contracting with the assistant. Reimbursements will NOT be made for assistants who are directly related to the child (parent, grandparent or sibling). Upon completion of the WNCDSA One-on-One Reimbursement form, payments will be made directly to the assistant.
If the camp-enrichment program hires the assistant, WNCDSA will reimburse the camp-enrichment program directly for these expenses up to the total amount of $400, including tuition for the child enrolled. The camp program would submit the bill and the WNCDSA One-on-One Reimbursement form to the WNCDSA for reimbursement.
What if I have additional questions?
